Borrowed a board off Gutted due to a sudden lack of 'toybox' and headed down to meet up with Mark (www.vansforwork.co.uk) to sort out my old van, and then go for a sail.

Van started first go, swapped a wheel over with spare as one tyre was pretty 'slick' !! Loaded my kit up into the van, and off we went to Pevensey.

Looked light on the inside but windy enough out the back. Only had the U-Surf 84 so opted to be powered up to get off the beach and went for 5.8m Poison. Mark went for his FSW105 and Storm 5.75m.

I was first out, and was the perfect set up, so told Mark all was cool and carried on while he finished getting suited and promptly joined me on the water.

We had a quality hour or so before opting for a refreshments break, just as Francis turned up at the beach. He promptly rigged 5.0m and his Syncro 90, but one run out and back and he changed up to his 5.6m, while Mark and myself carried on as we were.

Perfect timing really as just as Francis re-emerged, the wind picked up a bit, to the point I even considered changing down to 5.3m Manic ... but being a lazy so and so with re-rigging (I've done my rigging penance with the demo's I reckon!) I never bothered. Mark wasn't so lazy as he swapped boards from his 105 to WaveCult 92.

All was cool until Richard (U-Surf) turned up, and cursed us all by rigging his 5.0m having seen that I was stacked as I came into the beach, going really deep downwind at full tilt ;-)

Rich joined us for an hour before it died right down, typically just as Mark sent me out for a quick go on his kit to see what I thought of it. Wind died so pretty unfair to offer many conclusions, though the deck was pretty slippy for a pretty new board. Seemed nice when I was powered up, but also felt lower volume than the U-Surf 84 I'd been using all afternoon.

Cracking session, just like the good old days :-)

Rounded off nicely travelling home via a stop for diesel, and the fan belt busting just after I'd filled the thing up. How typical is that? Not a major stress, dropped it back to Mark's yard so can sort it out in the week, so more excuses to head to the beach ;-)

Mechanic's first look suggested siezed alternator, so that wasn't such good news. First up might lube it up with a hammer methinks, second option is a trip to the local breakers yards with a new alternator added to the list of bits i need ... DOH :-(

Anyway, I can't let that detract from a really cool afternoon at the beach can I ?

Big thanks to Gutted for his generous loan of the U-Surf, and also to Mark for heping sorting my van.
